Wonderful Color Woodcut of Nasturtiums

Hall Thorpe (1874 - 1947) - Nasturtiums. Color woodcut. How much do I love this? As much as I love nasturtiums? YES! via

Climbing Nasturtiums at My Cottage

These climbing nasturtiums were planted from seeds in the ground in the spring.

I am so enjoying this riot of color right now.

Nasturtiums are tender perennials that didn't do much over the hot summer but are coming into their glory now that temps have cooled off. I am hoping they will reseed themselves but I will pick and save some seeds just in case. Please notice my newest (old) galvanized watering can far left. Thrift shop find for fifty cents but I paid them one dollar because I had no change. Love it. What you see above is very selective photography. My front garden bed is filled with weeds and I have just begun to tackle them. The annual firehouse sale and auction of donated stuff was Saturday and as you all know, it's my favorite day of the year. The very first thing I bought was a "GARDEN CLAW" and it is a really wonderful addition to my gardening tool collection. I used it and filled up two dumper carts as soon as I got home. You don't have to bend over. It's a long rod with handle bars at the top and four long angled prongs at the bottom. You just push it in and twist and the weeds come right up. I am thrilled with it and inspired to get my front back in shape once again. It works in a gravel driveway too. Yay!!

Memorial Day at My Cottage

I posted this Pottery Barn ad on Memorial Day 2012. I still love it and this porch party is the perfect place to celebrate family and friends to remember our fallen soldiers.

I photographed this pool at a gilded age mansion in Bernardsville several weeks ago. I added the text to remind you to use your sunscreen. I also posted this on Instagram this week.

My nasturtium seeds are getting their second set of leaves.

Are you going to any Memorial Day parades today?

I hope you get a good place to see it. This dog found a great spot to see the marching bands.

First Naturtium Blossom

The few nasturtiums that survived my overwintering project were planted outside a few weeks ago and I already have one blossom. I learned that they still need a lot of watering while overwintering indoors. I lost quite a few in the basement because I didn't go down there often enough to nurture them. Click here to see them in pots inside my cottage.

Here is a photo of the seed packet.

This photo of mine was posted in August 2008 when my blog was brand new and it still gets a lot of attention from my side bar when viewed on a computer. I remember thinking at the time it was awfully early to see any fall color.

I am planning to enjoy a day with no rain today. Fingers crossed. xo

Overwintering Nasturtiums in my Attic

These two small pots of nasturtiums were dug up in the fall and they have continued to thrive in my cool attic all winter long. I never tire of looking at their bright green round leaves on red stems  and am quite amazed at how hardy they are for annuals. They ask for nothing but to be watered when they begin to dry out. I also pick off the yellow leaves. They bloomed for a long time in the fall too. From now on, I'm calling them tender perennials and I'm happy I'll have a couple of plants to put out in the spring instead of having to wait for my seeds to sprout.

Nasturtium Seeds and An Acorn Tile

I found the seeds for trailing nasturtiums and bought 4 packets. I have already planted 2 packets in various planters in my front garden. It has rained every day since and I have turned on my heat twice. Mother Nature is still on a rampage of sorts but I'm ever hopeful the seeds will do their thing and give me a wonderful display. Fingers Crossed. I will put in supports for the ones I want to climb and leave the rest alone so they can trail.
The fabulous blue acorn tile was purchased at the same estate sale as my silver trophy. I adore the impressed acorn design, the intense blue color, and just looking at it makes me happy. Enjoy your Sunday. xo
